Quotable...“Elliot Ness is quoted as saying, ‘Never give up the fight until the fight is done.’ I’m here to tell you I’m not done yet.”— Frank Moe cites “The Untouchables” during his candidacy announcement for Moffat County Commission. Craig — The 2014 election is 19 months away, but a local candidate has emerged for the District 3 office of Moffat County commissioner.During Saturday’s annual Lincoln Day Dinner at the Holiday Inn of Craig, Republican Frank Moe, owner of Deer Park Inn and Suites, announced his bid for the local office.Moe said he chose Saturday for his announcement “because there’s a lot of work to do and I’ll be going to a lot of commissioner meetings to stay abreast of what’s going on now and in the future.“It’s not that far away, because the primary is in May or June of next year, so it’s really just a little more than a year away.”Moe was introduced by House District 57 Rep. Bob Rankin, R-Carbondale. Rankin recognized Moe and his wife, Kerry, for their efforts this session to testify against Senate Bill 13-252, the renewable energy mandates bill that passed out of the Colorado General Assembly.Moe borrowed a line from the movie “The Untouchables” to begin his speech before about 40 local residents.“Elliot Ness is quoted as saying, ‘Never give up the fight until the fight is done,’” Moe said. “I’m here to tell you I’m not done yet.”Moe touted his recent activism for Moffat County in announcing his bid for local office.During the past several years, Moe has advocated on behalf of Moffat County and its economy before the Colorado Public Utilities Commission against House Bill 10-1365, the Clean Air, Clean Jobs Act, and before the Colorado Air Quality Control Commission against a $650 million upgrade to the Craig Station to comply with proposed visibility standards. In 2012, the Moes were featured in a video called “The Perfect Storm Over Craig, Colorado,” which was compiled by Washington, D.C.-based think tank Energy for America to show how excessive environmental regulations at the state and federal levels were affecting energy-based communities like Craig. The Moes sent that video to Republican presidential candidate Mitt Romney, which inspired the former Massachusetts governor in May 2012 to be the first presidential nominee to make a campaign stop in Craig.“I think I have proven to the people of Moffat County that I will never give up the fight,” Moe said in a news release. “I am running for Moffat County Commission in District 3 for the 2014 election, and I ask for your support.”This is Moe’s second bid for the Moffat County Commission. He ran in 2010 against incumbent Republican Tom Mathers and was defeated by a mere 49 votes during the primary election. Mathers is term limited and cannot run again in 2014.Moe’s campaign websites www.moeforcommissioner.com and www.votemoe.com will be live soon.Joe Moylan can be reached at 970-875-1794 or jmoylan@CraigDailyPress.com
